I have dedicated a lot of energy and attention to watching, reading and listening to Dr. Russell A. Barkley, Ph.D., since he, for me, has the ability to explain ADHD in ways that makes so much sense to my very own ADHD mind.
I hope that you will learn as much of this material, as I have, so that you can get closer to optimising living everyday to the fullest, in spite of having ADHD in your life!
His knowledge, is by far the most up-to-date and comprehensive information available, on the topic of ADHD, I’ve found, anywhere! And he is both down-to-earth, likeable, scientifically top notch and one of the top researchers that works with CHADD in the US.
A part from that, I have heard him give podcast interviews to people like you and I, you know – the regular folks with ADHD, and as he explains in this very open and honest article about the loss of his twin brother, Ronald, to the effects of having untreated ADHD, so he knows ADHD from the inside out and downside and up. He’s human – I like him 🙂
I will not talk down to you or dumb down the information for you, but treat you as equals and explain this, as I would to any of my colleagues in the medical professions …

The presentation have been broken up into smaller sizes, as the total length of the presentation is 2h 51m long and not many with ADHD have an attention span that can “hold that thought” for that extended period of time.
The videos are 5 – 10 min. long and have been divided into subjects, for easy navigation, so that you can use it as a reference book, now as well as in the future, when you check back once in a while to “get it once more”.
There are 23 videos in all, and at the bottom, you can find the full-length presentation in one video as well, if you wish to settle in for a Friday night on the coach with popcorn and your family and learn about ADHD, together.

Essential Ideas You Need to Know!
Presenter:
Description:
In this presentation Dr. Barkley distills from his 40 years of research and clinical practice on ADHD the essential ideas that parents and others need to know in understanding, managing, and otherwise raising, educating or treating a child with ADHD. The information provided will help you cut through the noise, sensation-driven media coverage, misinformation, and outright propaganda that exist in the current age of information overload. These ideas (learning objectives) span the topics of: the nature of ADHD, both its obvious symptoms of inattention and impulsive-hyperactive behavior to its underlying disturbance in self-regulation (executive functioning); why ADHD is a valid mental health disorder and not a myth, as recently (and periodically) claimed in mainstream media; the multiple causes of ADHD and why it should be viewed as the diabetes of psychiatry; the life course risks for children when their ADHD goes untreated; the implications of these various risks for impairment focused treatment and other important issues related to the transition to adolescence; distinguishing the treatments that work, those that may, and those that don’t; and the roles adults need to play in raising a child with ADHD.
This lecture on “Essential Ideas for Parents” was part of the 2014 Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada (CADDAC) conference, and this presentation was recorded on Saturday November 1st. 2014. It has been uploaded to YouTube.com by Jason Salotti and Adhd Videos, regards to you sharing this with the world, it’s awesome!
I have no rights to the materials, and no authorisation from any of the before mentioned parties. But as it has been publicly available for almost a year now on YouTube.com I have decided to use it as well. And I do it out of the utmost respect for Dr. Barkley, as I consider him the world’s foremost authority on the subject matter of ADHD, which is why I mainly reference his statements, in most of my articles.
So I hope and trust, that no one will take this the wrong way, as I am simple an NGO fighting for the rights of people with ADHD, and my sole purpose is not financial or in any other way beneficiary to me personally or ADDspeaker as a whole. This is way to good, not to be shared with the world!
